Bergwacht Bayern is hosting the ICAR MEDCOM Spring Meeting in Bad Tölz from May 7 to 11, 2025. International mountain rescue physicians will exchange information on alpine medicine, training and research. We will be present as an industry partner on May 8 as part of the training day in the helicopter simulation center and will present our mobile patient monitoring technology to the participants.

Focus on air rescue

International experts in mountain rescue medicine meet annually at the ICAR MEDCOM Spring Meeting in Bad Tölz to discuss current standards in alpine medicine, promote professional exchange and initiate joint research projects. The focus of this year’s “Spring Meeting” is on air rescue – with practical training on the new H145 helicopter simulator and a field day on Brauneck.

Ultralight and mobile patient monitoring

The patient monitoring solution from cosinuss° consists of the in-ear sensor c-med° alpha and the cosinuss° Health app. The solution allows mobile and continuous monitoring of vital parameters directly at the place of use, no matter how remote or difficult to reach. Pulse rate, oxygen saturation, body temperature and a perfusion and quality index are recorded. In addition, the PPG signal display provides additional insight into the individual heartbeats. With a weight of just 6.5 g and a length of 5.5 cm, the sensor fits comfortably in the ear and transmits the data wirelessly via Bluetooth – ideal for use in helicopters, mountainous regions or disaster areas. Several air rescue organizations as well as European mountain rescue services and special rescue teams are now using cosinuss° technology in their operations.

More about the organizers

Prof. Dr. Matthias Jacob, State Physician of the Bavarian Mountain Rescue Service, Dr. Natalie Hölzl, President of the German Society for Mountain and Expedition Medicine (BExMed) and the team from the Mountain Rescue Centre for Safety and Training are in charge of planning and implementing the event.

The Medical Commission (MEDCOM) of the International Commission for Alpine Rescue (ICAR) is an international body of experts for emergency medicine in the Alpine region. Delegates from member organizations worldwide work together to research and develop alpine emergency medicine, create and update international medical guidelines, coordinate education and training standards and promote the exchange and transfer of knowledge. The ICAR is divided into several specialist commissions – including medicine, air rescue, avalanche rescue, terrestrial rescue and dog handlers – which work closely together to establish global standards in the field of mountain rescue.

Bergwacht Bayern is part of the Bavarian Red Cross and has around 3,500 volunteer mountain rescuers. With 8,500 missions per year, 109 rescue teams, 95 rescue stations and a state-of-the-art training center in Bad Tölz, it is one of the largest and most efficient organizations of its kind. The mountain rescue center for safety and training offers state-of-the-art training conditions – including flight simulators, a mountain weather room for extreme weather simulations and practical training scenarios in cooperation with the police, fire department, water rescue and air rescue services. It acts as a central contact point for emergency services from all over Europe.
