Melexis has received the Elektra Award in the category “World’s smallest medical grade FIR sensor”. cosinuss° uses the temperature sensor of Melexis successfully and with good experiences in the clinical thermometer degree°. Thanks to its small size and easy integratability, it fits perfectly into the small earpiece of the degree° and measures reliably with an accuracy of only ±0.2˚C.

Elektra Award

Electronics Weekly created the Elektra Awards to honor outstanding achievements and developments in the electronics industry that define the industry and contribute to its progress. It was the 17th time they had been handed out this year. The winning of the Elektra Award is considered one of the most prestigious prizes a company in the global electronics industry can receive. An independent jury evaluates the quality of all entries submitted. Last Wednesday, December 4, an impressive gala dinner was held at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London’s Park Lane and the winners in 22 categories were announced. Our partner Melexis was the winner in the category “World’s smallest medical grade FIR sensor”.

Melexis is one of the market leaders for mixed-signal ICs and integrated sensor ICs. cosinuss° uses the Melexis MLX90632 FIR sensor in the continuously measuring clinical thermometer for children, degree°. The decision to use the Melexis sensor was made because it combines all the features required for degree° to meet our high standards.

FIR Technology

The MLX90632 is based on Melexis’ established FIR technology, which uses the characteristic that all objects emit thermal radiation. Miniaturized far infrared sensors are typically sensitive to thermal interference, but the MLX90632 mitigates this effect with smart compensation algorithms.
The degree°s sensor head must be kept small to fit into very small children’s ears. Thanks to the smallest medical grade FIR sensor in the world, degree° can be used for babies from 6 months.
In addition, it measures infrared radiation at a wider angle than other sensors of this type, allowing more accurate measurement of body temperature.
The Melexis MLX90632 FIR integrates two sensors that independently measure ambient temperature to provide more reliable readings.

We are proud to work with the best and now award-winning FIR sensor on the market.
