cosinuss\u00b0 is conducting a research project in the field of Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) security in cooperation with the Klinikum rechts der Isar of the Technical University of Munich<\/a>, the Ruhr University of Bochum<\/a> and PHYSEC GmbH<\/a>. The objective is to develop a concept that guarantees secure data transmission and at the same time meets the regulatory and practical requirements in the clinical environment.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>

Description of the research project<\/h2><\/div>

cosinuss\u00b0 will contribute to the new research project “ProPair: Context-based trust initialization of telemedical microdevices” together with the project partners over the next three years (until June 2025). cosinuss\u00b0 takes the role of project management and contributes its technical know-how as well as its experience with electronic devices in the clinical environment. The project is funded by the Ministry of Education and Research through the KMU-innovativ funding measure. This is intended to strengthen the innovation potential of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the field of cutting-edge research.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>

Topic of the research project<\/h2><\/div>

Due to the steadily growing digitization in healthcare, clinics are increasingly implementing a BLE infrastructure in addition to the usual network connections such as LAN, WiFi and 5G. Among other things, this standardized interface offers the possibility of navigating patients more easily and efficiently, locating assets, and easily integrating modern medical devices, such as cosinuss\u00b0 in-ear sensors<\/a>, into the clinic system. The establishment of an easy-to-use but at the same time very secure connection between mobile devices of all kinds makes the progress of digitalization possible and thus promotes a variety of new, highly innovative applications and business fields in healthcare.<\/p>\n

cosinuss\u00b0 has developed a remote patient monitoring<\/a> system which transmits data via BLE and is already in use in the medical environment. A secure pairing process, which is the basis for secure data transmission, plays a very important role in a realistic environment. Based on a new concept, a new, technically secure pairing process for easy-to-use authentication and authorization is to be developed. Here, special attention is paid to the secure connection as well as the error-free assignment of devices to each other. The effectiveness and the innovation potential of the new pairing process will be evaluated by technical implementations and tests together with the project partners and checked for risks in the clinical application area. The next three years of research will also focus on the practical applicability of the theoretically elaborated research results by developing various demonstrators. Following the project, the results are to be put to the test in a clinical feasibility study at the Klinikum rechts der Isar of the Technical University of Munich.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>

Objective of the research project<\/h2><\/div>

For cosinuss\u00b0, improving the security of its own BLE sensors through a highly secure technology plays a decisive role in protecting the security of sensitive, personal data and setting itself apart from the competition. Especially in the use case of clinics, where a simple and at the same time secure connection of the sensors to other devices is an essential condition, cosinuss\u00b0 wants to position itself and offer a comprehensive solution package. All data collected in the healthcare sector, especially patient records, are highly sensitive and must be protected with the highest conscience by special technology requirements. cosinuss\u00b0 wants to guarantee this security at all levels to its existing and future customers and partners and develop a sustainable security concept with the necessary data protection requirements based on the ProPair project. In addition, medical personnel should be confronted with minimal effort when coupling and using cosinuss\u00b0 sensors with other medical devices, for example without having to enter cumbersome passwords to establish a connection.<\/p>\n

With this highly secure “Made-in-Europe” technology approach, cosinuss\u00b0 aims to shape the healthcare industry in the long term through technical independence and to make good use of the immense market potential in the constantly growing global IoT market.<\/p>\n<\/div>
